Do Animals have morals? interesting debate
August 31st, 2009 at 9:20 am (Bioethics)
I have a dog and lord knows it sure feels like she is loyal and loving but do animals have a moral structure? What is the sentience of animals and is it similar to how human’s minds work? The bioethisist Peter singer has written and talked a great deal about the topic. I see that the BBC now has a piece on the topic http://www.bbc.co.uk/ethics/animals/rights/moralstatus_1.shtml

I know this is a long time ago. And you might not even ever be looking at your blog anymore. But, I wanted to say that the animal rights movement has moved something BIG in this country because the treatment of animals that we eat and that we keep as pets is improving, incrementally but it is improving.
I think this has to do with children and them being exposed to the idea that their pets are a lot more like themselves than, say, someone in my generation was ever exposed to. I was raised on a small farm, and we did not think that chickens, or geese or even dogs or cats were in some way equal emotionally to ourselves. Now, we know that birds, dogs and other animals have an emotional response. This is HUGE change, and just in a few decades.
I wish you were still blogging. I hope that you are well and as happy as possible.
