Riding the Train – Pet Peeves

I ride public transportation regularly. While on these daily tips I often wonder if there is a code of ethics for train riders? What motivates people to act the way they do?

These deep thoughts are usually motivated by a couple of my pet peeves.

1) Why do people on the platform push themselves in front of you to get on the train? This is often followed by said person standing and blocking the doorway while they decide where to go in the train car.

2) The train I ride is often standing room only by the time it leaves the city. Because of this I will usually stand and leave seats open for those who need them more. Then people who appear to be fit push and jump in to get the seat(s). I make allowances in my mind thinking that they may be tired or have an issue that is not apparent; however this happens so often that it often just folk who want to sit no matter who is standing. I am happy to see that there are many people who stand for the same reason I do (both male and female). That does help make me feel that there is some hope for the future.

3) The last pet peeve I will list results from peeve number 2. After I have been standing for 30 minutes, on a train that is weaving and swaying, starting and stopping, those same people who pushed to grab a seat jump up at the stop and push me out of the way so they can get off in front of me. Why? will those three steps make a huge difference in their lives?

None of these are huge issues. In fact, they help me remember to be patient and considerate if possible. I know I have the time in my life that these small things should not matter. But I constantly ask myself why do people do that?

Have the book. Not looked at it yet.

Well, I have the book.  In fact got it on 8 AM of the morning it was released.  I have not looked at it yet because my wife and daughter got it first.  They both finished it over the weekend.  Thank goodness they are being kind and not saying what happened.  I hope they can keep it quiet until I am done.  I do not read as fast as they do.  I am a very fast reader just not as fast as they are.

Slow and quiet.

I am still here. still knitting at home and on the train. Still getting funny looks on the train but I am getting more used to it. It is hotter than I would like it to be and work is very busy but we are still happy and plugging away at things. ( Even if I am not posting a lot !)
